Site
maps
Once the
design brief has been finalised the first stage of building
a website is the design of the Site map. This is the structure
of the site and the blueprint from which the site will be
built.
It is
at this stage with Netro42's consultancy that we guide clients
in how best to impart the information they have available
and how to prioritise that information.
This is then reflected in the Site Map design which shows
the varying levels of the site (see example below)

For example the home page is generally the first page visited
by a customer and as such should contain links to the most
important areas of the site (for example product or service
information) It is pointless having the most relevant information
buried too deep within the site as the user may well have
left before reaching it.
Prioritising this information is vitally important, but there
are always more than one way to access information. For example
this very site utilises various ways of navigating such as
the drop down menu, the navigation list to the left, the logo
itself plus links within the text.
